DE Search

DE Search provides visibility into Data Exchange (DE) files directly within AquaCUE.

Use DE Search to troubleshoot, for example:

  • Why meters, endpoints and accounts failed to appear in AquaCUE.
  • Why EyeOnWater users lose access to their accounts by revealing whether the account ID changed or a meter or endpoint did not provision correctly.
  • When the resolution of a meter changed and affected billing reads and consumption data.
  • Why imported billing reads are not visible in AquaCUE.

New Concepts

DE Search introduces two new concepts: Import Time and Index.

Import Time
Currently, DE 1.0 Accounts and Assets files for provisioning/updating meters, endpoints and accounts apply “today” as the default date in cases where a facility leaves any of the Meter_Install_Date, Endpoint_Install_Date and SA_Start Date fields blank in a given DE file and those dates for each particular service are not already in the system.

Import Time” tells you the exact date and time that a given row of data was imported. If the row of data explicitly includes any of a Meter_Install_Date, an Endpoint_Install_Date and an SA_Start_Date, those dates are applied, and the new Import Time field tells you exactly when those dates were entered into and processed by the system.

Import Time displays in mm/dd/yyyy hr:mm format and appears as the first field in each row of data returned by a search.

Index
While you won’t see this term anywhere in AquaCUE, an index is a searchable collection of records or rows in a given DE file. As such it gives you visibility into DE file content.

In DE Search, a drop-down menu of available indices lets you inspect the contents of any Data Exchange file type that you have imported.

Possible Indices include:

• Accounts and Assets–search the records that determined the current state of accounts, meters and endpoints.
• Billing Reads–search imported meter billing reads from manually read meters.
Consumption Target–search files used to configure per meter water conservation goals.
• Contact Us–search files used to bring into AquaCUE account-specific contact details for your customer service department. The details are displayed in the EyeOnWater customer-facing portal. When used in conjunction with Person IDs, Contact Us information can be automatically linked to specific groups of accounts. This lets you display contact details for customer service people dedicated to VIP customers.
ID Update–search files used to search and replace account, location, service point and meter IDs.
Account Billing Transactions–search transactions related to customer water bills.
Import Logs–search all of the files imported in the selected timeframe and get counts of DE1 Errors and DE1 Warnings along with other statistics.

TIP: When troubleshooting, search the Accounts and Assets index to look for DE 1.0 error and warning messages.

TIP: When investigating what may have changed at a given premise, search a field that might include multiple values. For example, if you want to discover what happened to Meter_ID 1234, rather than search for Meter ID 1234, search for the street address of the location where you think the meter was provisioned, and then check the Meter_ID column.

Remember, DE Search looks for exact matches. If you enter 123 Main Street and the value in AquaCUE is 123 MAIN ST, the system will not find what you are looking for. You must enter main st or MAIN ST (DE Search is not case-sensitive). Similarly, if the street name includes a direction identifier such as SOUTH MAIN, try searching for SOUTH MAIN or S MAIN until you find what you are looking for.

Similarly, to discover which endpoints have been attached to a specific meter, search by Meter ID (see screenshot below) and use a long timeframe such as All Time.

This screen grab shows that two different endpoints have been attached to Meter 98568727 for Location ID 0244.

Different Endpoints at One Location

To access the feature:

      1. Go to Assets>System Sync.Start Searching Button• Click Start Searching in the Data Exchange Search section on the right. NOTE: Only files that have been uploaded are searchable. Doing a dry-run without clicking Approve will not add the file to the search index.

        • To search data contained in a specific file, locate it in the Activity List and click View File in Data Exchange Search.

View File in Data Exchange Search

A new page in AquaCUE opens that takes advantage of all of your monitor’s available horizontal screen space.

TIP: Wait for the blue bar in the Search box to switch from “Loading” to “Search” before proceeding to Step .

      2. Use the drop-down menu at the upper left to select indices. The list of available indices includes only the file types imported by your facility.
For example, one facility uses these DE file types:

        List of Indices

Whereas another uses these file types:

        Another list of indices

Still another facility uses these file types:

      3. Use the second drop-down menu from the top left to select how far back to search.Timeframe selector drop-down menu
      4. Use the search field to enter values of interest. IDs, addresses, account names, register resolutions, etc.Search box
        TIP
: Leave the Search box blank and click Search to load all of the records in the selected Index.
      5. Check Highlight Differences to quickly see changes between results highlighted in red text.Highlight Difference
      6. Auto-hide blank fields and Auto-hide fields with constant values do exactly what their labels imply. The result is a less cluttered view of the data.NOTE: When the Auto-hide fields with constant values box is checked, navigating to different pages of records using the < and > arrows at the bottom of the screen might make previously hidden fields visible. This normal and expected behavior results from records with changing values on the new page.Click the Fields on Top and Fields on Left radio buttons to choose where DE Column Headers appear in the display.
      7. Click the Fields tab on the right to expand it and select fields you want to view by checking and unchecking fields.Fields selectorTIP: Uncheck/check the Featured Fields and Constant Fields boxes to deselect/select all of the Featured or Constant fields. Select fields to display them. Deselect fields to hide them.TIP: When selecting individual fields, the order in which you select them is the order in which they are displayed.

Fields Names with (text) in them

Field names followed by the word (text) show you the original values provided in the data exchange file. Field names without the word (text) show values as computed by AquaCUE.

Meter Install Date (text)

TIP: Provided values and computed values typically differ where dates are concerned. For example, in the picture above, the provided Meter_Install_Date (text) field shows that the date format provided in the file was yyymmdd with no hyphens or other separators, while the Meter_Install_Date field to the left reveals that AquaCUE converted the format to mm/dd/yyyy.
